Volunteers


Volunteer Area Job Descriptions

Admissions & Will Call: Volunteers will be responsible for the sale of tickets to the general public arriving on site, both at the Home Course and at Chambers Bay during the term of the Championship. Volunteers will be responsible for the distribution of pre-purchased tickets awaiting pick up on site at Chambers Bay only. Admissions & Will Call Volunteers will be responsible for the distribution of daily pass credentials to pre-registered authorized guests and media. Volunteers will also be responsible for the distribution of Pairing Sheets.

The Admissions volunteers will also distribute daily passes to properly credentialed USGA, PGA, and LPGA Tour Members, etc. Volunteers will be stationed near the entrance to ensure that all persons entering the property are displaying appropriate credentials for admissions and to check for items not allowed at the Championship in accordance with the USGA policy.

Additionally, Admissions and Will Call Volunteers will oversee the distribution of scooters to disabled spectators near the entrance gate at both Chambers Bay and The Home Course. Volunteers will be responsible for distributing, collecting and ensuring the scooters are charged each night. Volunteers will be assigned at both The Home Course (8/20 thru 8/24) and Chambers Bay (8/20 - 8/29).

Marshals: The function of Marshals (Gallery Control) is to maintain fair playing conditions for the players by controlling the spectator gallery. Marshals will also serve as forecaddies at the drive zone of each hole and at the greens on both courses as well as facilitate the flow of movement for players, caddies, officials and the media. Marshal volunteers will be assigned at both The Home Course (8/21 & 8/24) and Chambers Bay (8/21 ñ 8/29). THIS CATEGORY HAS BEEN FILLED

Operations: Volunteers will assist prior to the Championship with large mailings, filing, answering telephones and other duties as needed. During the Championship week, Office volunteers will be assigned to answer telephones and forward messages and inquiries as needed.

Volunteers will package the volunteer uniforms, credentials and other materials for distribution. Volunteers will also be needed for Volunteer Uniform distribution at all volunteer Training Sessions TBD.

During the Championship volunteers will be responsible for Volunteer Check-In, overseeing volunteer Food & Beverage service, and providing general information to volunteers. Volunteers will be assigned at both The Home Course (8/20 thru 8/24) and Chambers Bay (7/23 ñ 8/29).

Parking: Volunteers will work under the direction of the Championship Committee and the University Place Police Department. Volunteers will be assigned at the entrances of the parking lots to direct traffic, ensure appropriate parking passes are displayed and other duties as needed. Volunteers will be assigned at both The Home Course (8/21 thru 8/24) and Chambers Bay (8/21 - 8/29).

Scoring: Scorecard Entry volunteers will collect the official scorecards from the players at the 9th and 18th greens, enter the hole-by-hole scores into a handheld device, and return the official scorecards to the same players on the next tee. The scores entered into the device are then transmitted to various areas throughout the course including the Scoreboards and Scoring Central. THIS CATEGORY HAS BEEN FILLED

Also, a number of elevated status boards will be located at Chambers Bay. Members of this committee will receive live scoring update information and will update their assigned status board accordingly. Public Scoreboards will be located at both Chambers Bay and The Home Course. Volunteers will assist the USGA in posting scores on these boards. Volunteers will be assigned at both The Home Course (8/23 and 8/24) and Chambers Bay (8/23 - 8/29).

Standard Bearers and Walking Scorers: Standard Bearer volunteers will carry and update their standard displaying the match status at the close of each hole. All Standard Bearer volunteers must be physically able to walk the course, carry the standard, and be familiar with match play scoring.

Walking Scorers will enter the match status into a handheld device which will communicate the match status to Scoring Central. Walking Scorer volunteers must be physically able to walk the course, and should be familiar with match play scoring. Volunteers will be assigned at Chambers Bay (8/25 ñ 8/29).  THIS CATEGORY HAS BEEN FILLED

Transportation: Volunteers will transport players, caddies, officials, and USGA guests to and from the golf courses, the airport, and the official hotels. Drivers will be needed prior to the Championship week to stage the courtesy vehicles from local dealerships, and return the cars to the auto dealerships after the Championship. All transportation volunteers must be over 25 years of age and have a valid driverís license and current insurance. Volunteers will be assigned at Chambers Bay (8/18 - 8/30).
